In a nutshell it is a "monthly membership" with your provider.
Typical DPC's - Charge a monthly membership which includes all the services that they provide.
This usually includes physicals, blood tests, x-rays, sonograms and whole sale pricing on medications.
There is no insurance middleman so they can focus on a smaller panel of patients and provide them with a much higher quality of care.
Scheduling is easy and some providers even give their patients their personal cell number.
It's like having a doctor in the family.
